Glimmer

So I FINISHED IT!!! 

This started as an experiment using some more painting techniques i picked up from the amazing FZD Schools video's on youtube that Rosela got me hooked on.

Anyway, i wanted this to be a more peaceful part of their trip, and i also wanted to try drawing an Inukshuk. It ended up being a LARGE one, but it suited the atmosphere to have something more than a knee high pile of stones.

They had been on the move for days. 

The first few had reasonably good going, the winter chill was definitely in the air, but when the sun was out it was almost pleasant. Then they had reached the mountains, the first morning was clear and calm and they had made excellent time. It was around lunchtime when the wind has picked up and by evening they were caught in a furious storm.

 

They had sheltered from the wind behind some rocky outcrops but the tents were soon covered in drifts and even the Tokota’s seemed eager to be out of the foul weather. They had bunkered down and decided to see if it would blow over, but by lunchtime the next day it was still raging.

 

After a very uncomfortable night and a day of getting lost when the storm returned briefly, they had finally made it over the mountains and back down into the tree line. They savored the peace. It was the first time in days that they had not been buffeted by howling winds, or felt the cold cutting into any exposed flesh.

 

Up ahead they spotted a familiar sight. One of the Inukshuk markers, the largest yet, stood next to a small stream. The gentle glow of the light through the trees and she soft burbling of the stream made the place feel like another world.

 

Kaniq didn’t waste time and made her way down to the stream to quench her thirst. Tuaq dismounted and let the big female rest a moment as he watched Anna and Katalina cross the stream to take a closer look at the monolith.

 

Up close it dwarfed the duo, it was even larger than they had realized. Who knows how long it had stood there, visited by other groups as they made the same journey to prove their strength and endurance.

 

Kaniq finished her drink and turning to Tuaq she licked his face, leaving a chilly trail of slobber running down his neck. He grimaced and whipped it off, scratching her jaw as he picked his way along the bank towards the Inukshuk.

 

Anna pulled out some of their remaining food, offering him a handful of dried jerky and a handful of nuts. They would have to make do until they stopped for the evening. Then hopefully they could have something warm and filling.

 

Hopefully this would be their last night before they reached the finish.
