Shown: Manighar (FR) in the mounting yard before the 2010 running of the Melbourne Cup.
In a Bay dominated breed and industry, the few grey horses that make it to top in the industry always seem to capture the crowds attention. Perhaps it is that they remind us of our childhood dream of the white charger, the Pegasus, waiting to sweep us away and fly off into adventures unknown. Perhaps it is just that in the scramble and chaos of the race, a grey horse is easier to spot in the ever changing mass of bodies.
This boy was another horse who seemed to love the crowd as much as they loved him, he thrived on the energy and the attention. Flanked by his two stern body guards he looked every bit the superstar posing for his fans.
Note: All the images from this day were sadly rather grainy, weak lighting, an older camera and a lack of experience at that point contributed. Looking back i really wish i knew then what i do now, but it cant be helped and i love these images anyway.
