Ok back to the racers..

and cookies to anyone who recognises that profile! ;) (poor boy)

So our Trannies first colt with us and what a studly man!

-------------------------

Ark had grown, boy had he grown. After Logan had made his debut and then Ark, people began to think there was something in the water. He was an early bloomer, his body filled out as he rocketed towards adulthood. His head, so pretty as a foal and become heavier, and he even had a slight roman nose which the female grooms found adorable.

His personality hadn’t changed much either, the serious colt had become a focused young stallion and he took to racing like a duck to water, well apart from the occasional crash landing.

The Brut Force colt had fast work, not the best Geoff had seen but fast none the less, and he liked distance. The more work we put him through the more focused he became. So like a fine blade Geoff honed him until he was razor sharp and ready for use.

So He was entered in his first race, only 6F we wanted him to start shorter and gain experience before moving up. The big colt was squished into the gate, ears pricked as he waited tense for the bell. They broke and he shot out to find himself surrounded by bodies, churning muscle and flashing hooves. Head up he lost his stride and though Jess tried to ease him out of the mass of bodies Trannies first son lost his stride.

When they rounded into the straight Jess managed to get Ark out of the pack and give him some room, it was then that we saw him collect himself. His head lowered and his ears flicked forward. Later Jess would say that it was like someone had lit his tail on fire as the colt exploded away. The extra space allowed him to stretch his legs and we had never seen a stride that length, even Rio who had been massive would have seemed to be scrambling after this boy. But though his run seemed unstoppable there wasn’t enough space and he only managed to make it to 6th.

So we realised he needed space, not just to get his mind focused but to allow his massive frame to be utilised. So back home to Moonee he went and with a vengeance. The big chestnut colt roared out of the gate, stuck to the outside before unleashing that massive stride and screaming away to win by a neck.

We lengthened the distance then, and he began to show his true colours. The distance only allowed him more space to move, and he shattered the competition to win by 4 lengths. The press had a field day and we had a new champion on our hands.

He was to repeat the performance at the Boulders Cup, this time with his stable mate Whirly also in attendance. The two colts broke well and as predicted Whirly shot to the front settling nicely under his jockeys hands, while Ark effortlessly glided along outside the stalkers. Both colts were doing well by the last few furlongs and when they were given the go the moved fast and pulled away. It was neck and neck as Ark closed in on Whirly who was still speeding up. Both of our runners drew even, strides matched and they pulled even further away.

They seemed in sync and Jess and Betsy even say their breathing was in tune. They flashed under the wire and the photo finish results came up, it was Ark by a hair.

So we lengthened him again, and upped a grade. His morning works got longer and we added more weight to help condition him. On the day of the race Ark was in high spirits, becoming far more jovial than usual. High spirits kicked in and he frolicked around the mounting yard causing Jess to smile and Geoff to blow a gasket.

He frisked around the groom and bounced around in the small space allowed in the gate. Jess grimaced and tried to still him as the jockeys on either side glanced over and smirked at her.

He all but bashed through the gate and lurched out to find himself trailing already. Jess cursed before snapping his attention back together and surging after the sea of rumps ahead. Arks ears pricked as Jess finally settled him into his stride and they found themselves just on the outside of the trailers.

As they rounded the turn Jess flicked the reins and Ark cornered like a demon, kicking into the turf and rocketing his muscular frame around the corner. Jess smiled as he lengthened his stride pushing faster as he tore away after the leaders. He almost caught them and managed to snatch a very respectable 3rd.

However after his bash through the gate his neck and chest has sustained small cuts, and he was out of commission for his next intended start. So we let him heal and aimed him towards Seymour to race with his girlfriend Peri.

Our two drew positions next to each other, and on the bell both broke like a rocket and Jess found herself sitting against the rail with Syd and Peri sitting just outside. As the pair shot around the bend, Syd tapped the filly and sent her wide pulling ahead as Ark found himself blocked in by another closer. Jess swore as she saw the painted rear pulling away and tearing towards the line. Then she saw a gap, green shining through the mass of bodies and she pushed the colt through it. They gave chase but the post flashed past and they had only made it to 8th.

Not one to back down from a challenge Ark pushed harder and faster in his works and became snarky and unpredictable toward Peri whenever they worked together. So we decided to send him out with her again to give him a chance to work the issues he had with his manhood. (hehe)

They both broke well with Peri sitting ahead, Ark focused in on the mare and when he broke he shot after her. Passing her Jess grinned at Syd and tapped Ark. They scorched under the line fighting neck and neck with a big bay who nabbed a handy second.

Once again with a happy colt we sent him off to Sandown for his next G3 race. He was once again to miss out on a graded win but this time only by a head to a big grey front runner by the name of Tangaloo Davis.

We figured one more run this season would do well so we dropped him back and entered him into the Tasmanian Stakes. Run on the same day as the Derby where Peri was entered and back on home soil the entire staff managed to head out to watch them run, and boy did he go.

He seemed to ooze power as he settled behind the leaders and then simply outclassed the rest as he strolled in, still well in hand for a 4 length lead. After many happy reunions with his owners and friends from foal hood he was sent back to the stud for a week of rest before heading back up to the Racing stable until next season.
