“GEEEOOOFFFFFFFF!!!” The yell came loud and clear startling the older man out of his cat nap. “It’s Nahanni again, the damn filly tried to climb through the stall window!” Vonnie stuck her head around the office door before grabbing the phone off the shelf.

“Dammit!” Geoff cursed as the annoying beeps of the phone seemed to intensify his already throbbing headache. “How bad is it?”

Vonnie covered the phone, taking in the trainer’s slumped shoulders and his sad and tired eyes. “It’s not good but she will need some stitches, don’t worry too much but it shouldn’t affect her racing later this season”

The man sighed as Vonnie began to talk into the phone, watching the young woman walk around the corner her rubbed his temples. It was the third incident this year involving the filly, she just didn’t seem to possess a single idea of how to behave herself. First it was when she was being trained for the gate the darn thing got her head stuck in the side and managed to strain her neck. Then it was when she managed to swallow half the bristles out of her brush, though granted that was half Wish.

“Uhhhhhh, why can’t we have horses that are normal?”

Vonnie ducked her head back around the door frame “The vet will be here in 5 and Tony’s watching her and keeping her calm, I’m going to head back there and help him. If you need anything don’t hesitate to yell.”

Seeming to pause she glanced back over at him “Have you thought about taking a vacation? You look exhausted!” then as if fearing she had overstepped her bounds she ducked back around and scuttled down the aisle.

Geoff sat back the groaning of the old leather seeming to echo his feelings. His knees had begun to hurt recently and that was nothing compared to the headaches this constant work was giving him. He wished he could have a vacation but as much as he hated to admit it, he missed his stable manager. Ozzie had left with Frankie on one of her ‘shopping trips’ one that would no doubt end up with another headache for him.

Not that that pair alone away from watching eyes didn’t give him a migraine and a half anyway but he hadn’t felt it in his place to mention it to the Boss boss... and with the woman in questions mother being rather nicer than your average bear he didn’t feel like throwing a spanner in the works.

But that was all a light weight compared to the stress he’d had to endure the past few years after he started here. He had heard the talk that the stable was cursed, haunted by bad luck. Sure they had had their champions, horses of such a calibre that he had never had the opportunity of seeing before. He had become a big name in the industry, but he didn’t know at what cost.

The vet strode past, nodding her head at him before heading down to the fillies stall, how sad was that, she even knew where to go.

“That’s it after they get back I’m taking a vacation”

Temperament: Her nickname says it all. Annie seems to have been born with rocks in her head, she takes forever to learn something and acts like a total rock when confronted with a challenge. She’s a sweet little thing otherwise and loves attention of any sort. Her redeeming factor in Geoff’s eyes is her determination, she never gives in. Maybe it’s just she’s too dumb to realise she’s beaten but he chooses to think she’s a fighter.
History: Born in the middle of the day while her dam was in the paddock Annie stood early and promptly fell on her face. Regaining some semblance of balance she tottered forward to once again face plant. For such an awkward youngster she was surprisingly precocious as a filly, peaking in the later part of her juvenile and sophomore years. She showed a determination and fire on the track though several off track incidents prevented her racing in some big races.
