They stood watching, eyes lighting up as the dark form cavorted around the woman, every now and then a slight stumble and hitch in his stride betraying the ordeal he had gone through to get this far. The greatest smile of all light the face of the woman in the middle of the ring with him, her golden hair shone, her hazel eyes glowing as she beheld the stallions energy and life.

The road had been long and hard but here they were, Spawn was about to stand for his stud shot where he would pass on his fire and grace to foals around the world. The only son of her first love Rio and the Devil from America, had overcome injury and pain fighting with every part of his heart to regain life.

Frankie and Cassidy stood outside the ring, she leaning on the fence while the smaller ex-jockey stood arms crossed as his intense blue eyes focused on the woman.

“How’s it going? I never see her apart from him. I swear she sleeps in his stall” Frankie glanced at the man “It must be hard for you, and you know that I’m always here to help. If you ever need anything, you are both like family to me and I’d hate to think it was our stud that caused problems”

Syd sighed eyes tracing the elegant neck and the curve of Jess’ shoulder as he watched her shine for the first time in months.

“She isn’t talking to me. I never see her at home and I have no idea what is happening now he is up on his feet. She hasn’t shown any interest in returning to work and even after your offer of working with the younger horses here she still um’s and ah’s and stalls for time.”

He shook his head, his shoulders slumping as he turned towards the barn. Running his hand through his close cropped hair he leaned back on the fence and looked into the sunny sky, feeling the wind cool his tears and caress his cheek.

“I think we are over”

Frankie reached over, holding her friends hand as she stood in silence unsure what to say.

“We were so strong together, I still love her but I can’t be with someone who has no time for me. I think I will go away, maybe try and work a bit and forget myself.”

“Take as much time as you need! There is always a place here for you Syd and I will keep an eye on her for you”

Syd turned, and without looking back strode towards his rusty old ute and drove away from the barn.

Frankie watched the dilapidated old Toyota chug down the drive, Syd waving to Betsy and Tony as they walked Wish and Annie up the drive. It seemed as if the era was ending at the racing barn, they had lost their older horses, Jess showed no signs of returning to the track and with Syd now gone their first two jocks were off the cards.

Geoff had packed his bags and left for some old time R and R over the winter break, leaving Frankie and Ozzie in charge of the up and coming youngsters, something that stressed the new couple no end as they worked through not only the new responsibilities but their budding relationship.

Frankie smiled to herself thinking of the big man who had spent the morning reducing her to tears with laughter.

A surprised squeal brought her out of her thoughts and she snapped back to attention to see Wish scooting away from the arena as Spawn lunged towards the fence.

Tony dragged off by his startled colt stumbled, nearly falling while Annie and Betsy stood rock still staring into those cold eyes. With a snort and a firm head butt he knocked the woman out of the way before emitting a deep rumble as his ears pricked and he sashayed over the filly.

Jess grabbed her wayward charge by the forelock, a feat no other in the world would try and with a sound scolding led him away from a very excited young painted mare.

“Well at least we know he’s ready for stud duties!” she grinned as they passed Frankie.

Frankie smiled at her, but it was only half hearted as she registered the fact that her friend had not even noticed her fiancés disappearance. Thing were well and truly changing at KhanCohban.

Build: Powerful and athletic. His blade like head sits on a long and elegant neck with just enough crest and muscling to make it masculine. His shoulder is powerful and his chest is remarkably deep, housing large lungs and a big heart. His back is a touch longer than desired, but his hind quaters are incredibly powerful and balance out the size of his front end nicely. 

Dark Bay with crooked star, Snip with sires Blue eye mutation.
Genetic Tested as: Ee-Aa  (possibility of passing along blue eyes is less than 5%)
Negative for WFFS markers


"Since the accident that resulted in his gelding and the stroke that ended his career, Spawn has settled into a quiet horse. The heart and fire that was unleashed on the track when ridden by his bonded jockey has gone, and the horse that remains seems but a shadow of the Champion he once was. His raw talent and speed was unmatched, and he has shown to stamp his few foals with his sharp mind and amazing stamina. His cool and calculating view of the world was a sharp cry from his sires hellish antics, and we are thankful to his damline for giving him a sensible head. 

Sadly his health problems have left him unable to be ridden, and now a gelding. He spends his time now being hand walked by his old Jockey, and sleeping in the sun. He struggles to retain condition and has a stumbling gait which limits him to walking and trotting only. We will continue to monitor his health and provide the best care possible for him until he passes."
