Shown: Tokai Trick (JPN) in the mounting yard before the 2010 running of the Melbourne Cup.
It had been a cloudy day so far with bursts of warm sunshine that would nuke your skin making the fair complexioned people go pink. Just as the horses entered the mounting yard the clouds decided that it was time to make things interesting and it started to rain.
The expression on the handlers face really made me love this image. Tokai Trick is a beautiful horse, but my eyes keep going back to that resigned glare as the rain sets the competitors one extra challenge to face.
Note: All the images from this day were sadly rather grainy, weak lighting, an older camera and a lack of experience at that point contributed. Looking back i really wish i knew then what i do now, but it cant be helped and i love these images anyway.
